5 dead, 2 injured as car falls onto dry riverbed in Maharashtra

NEW DELHI: At least five people died and two others injured after their speeding car fell onto a dry riverbed in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district around 5.45am on Monday. The accident occurred when the vehicle hit a divider before falling into the Jagbudi River bed.The car was traveling from Nallasopara in Palghar district to Devrukh town when the incident took place. The crash claimed the lives of three women and two men.The deceased were identified as Mitali Vivek More, 43, Megha Paradkar, 22, Saurabh Paradkar, 22, Nihar More, 19, and Shreyas Sawant, 23.Officials from the Khed police station immediately responded to the scene and conducted rescue operations. The dry riverbed was strewn with boulders, which caused immediate fatalities for some occupants upon impact.
