Blast in Amritsar village near Pakistan border kills suspected Babbar Khalsa member

NEW DELHI: NEW DELHI: A man died following a blast near Naushera village in Amritsar, located close to the Pakistan border, on Tuesday morning. The explosion occurred within the Kambo police station limits and triggered a swift response from security forces.Police officials confirmed that the man injured in the explosion succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural), Maninder Singh, said the blast is suspected to have been caused by the mishandling of an explosive device.Deputy inspector general of police (Border Range), Satinder Singh, identified the deceased as a suspected member of a terrorist organisation. “He had come to retrieve an explosive consignment. We have received several clues, and further investigation is underway,” Singh said, adding that the man is believed to be linked to Babbar Khalsa — a banned terror group — with suspected ties to Pakistan’s ISI.Following the blast, police sounded an alert, cordoned off the area, and intensified security checks, especially due to the village’s close proximity to the international border.(With agency inputs)
